What it is
Nobody's Funeral is a one-shot for the last night of October. The village of Guttering makes candles, and it has a chandler on the hill that nobody dares go near. The party wake up at their own wake with no idea who they are, a candle stub burning down in their hands, and until midnight to find out what was taken from them.
It is written for Dungeoning In The Dark, where the players can't see their own character sheets. The DM sees everything and reveals facts to each player's phone as they come up in play. In this adventure every reveal is a memory coming back, so the story and the game are doing the same thing.
What you need
- One Dungeon Master who knows 5e. The players don't need to know anything.
- 3 to 6 players, each with a phone or tablet.
- About three hours, and half an hour beforehand to read it.
Everything in this adventure works on the free table. No app, no accounts.
How to run it
- Download the PDF and read it through once.
- Summon a table at dungeoninginthedark.com and type in your players' names.
- Level the party up once, so everyone starts at level 2. Reveal nothing yet.
- Read each character's background and secret. You will need them.
- Start with the read-aloud on page 4.
Running it on paper
Don't want to use the app? No problem. Make a level 2 character for each player and keep the sheets behind your screen. When a reveal comes up, read the fact out loud or pass it to the player on a slip of paper.
